Book a Tour and Plant a Tree Program
We created the “Book a Tour and Plant a Tree” initiative as a concrete action to support responsible tourism in Peru. With every booking, clients contribute a minimum amount dedicated to tree planting, and each reservation confirmation clearly states how many trees they plant as part of their journey.
Reforestation Projects in Peru
We accumulate contributions throughout the year and turn them into annual reforestation actions. In 2019 alone, our travelers helped gather more than 1,000 trees—an average of three trees per day—demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable travel in the Andes.
Community-Based Tourism in the Andes: Returning to Yuraq Turuyoq
On the return journey to Cusco, the team revisited the trees planted the previous year in the community of Yuraq Turuyoq. Seeing the trees well cared for and integrated into daily community life confirmed the lasting value of these reforestation efforts. This follow-up reinforces the belief that environmental responsibility must focus on continuity, not one-time actions.
Gratitude and Ongoing Commitment
None of these initiatives would be possible without the trust and support of each traveler. Peru Private Tours is deeply grateful to all clients who have supported this program and shared their encouragement for responsible tourism in Peru.
First and foremost, we extend special thanks to the entire Peru Private Tours team for their commitment to social and environmental responsibility. In particular, we recognize Cesario Pimentel, Yair Puma, Juvenal Pimentel, and Yahaida Huayta. They accompanied the team on challenging journeys to remote communities. Even when landslides extended the original plans, their commitment remained strong. Moreover, Peru Private Tours continues to strengthen these environmental efforts. At the same time, the company reinforces responsible tourism practices throughout Peru.
What to Consider When Choosing
To select the hotel that matches your desires, here are key factors luxury travelers often care about, with guidance specific to the Machu Picchu area.
Proximity and Access
Staying at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge allows direct entry to Machu Picchu from the lodge, offering minimal transport and maximum convenience. Aguas Calientes options require a short bus ride or walk. Early arrival (sunrise slots) helps reduce crowds.
Views and Setting
Look for rooms with views of Machu Picchu, the Vilcanota River, or surrounding mountain ridges. The sound of rivers or rainforest enhances the luxury atmosphere. Cloud-forest lodges like Inkaterra offer more serene natural surroundings.
Views and Privileges
Private transfers, guided tours, and special experiences such as sunrise breakfasts, rituals, and spa treatments should be included or easily arranged. Luxury hotels often provide concierge support for train schedules and park permits.
Comfort and Amenities
High-quality bedding, in-room heating or fireplaces (important due to cold and humidity), spa-style bathrooms with luxury features such as jacuzzis and scenic views, quality dining options, wellness facilities, and relaxation gardens.
Exclusive Experience
Special ceremonies, strong local cultural ties, botanical experiences, birdwatching opportunities, and orchid gardens distinguish a luxury stay from a generic one.
