Why Choose the Short Inca Trail with Hotel?

The Short Inca Trail is the best option for travelers who want to walk into Machu Picchu through the legendary Inca Trail but do not have time for the full 4-day trek. It offers the most meaningful final section of the route, including Wiñay Wayna, the Sun Gate, and the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu from above.
This version includes a hotel night in Aguas Calientes, making it more comfortable than a camping itinerary. After the hike, you can enjoy a hot shower, dinner in town, and a real bed before returning to Machu Picchu the next day for a guided visit.

Choose this adventure if you want
  • The final section of the original Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
  • A shorter hike with strong cultural and scenic value
  • Arrival through the Sun Gate, just like the classic Inca Trail
  • A comfortable hotel night instead of camping

Your Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with hotel begins with an early pickup from your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley. After a private transfer to the train station, you board the train toward Km 104, the official starting point of the short Inca Trail route.

Permits & Availability

The Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu requires an official permit for the Km 104 route. Availability is limited and permits must be issued under each traveler’s full name and passport details.
For the best chance of securing your preferred date, we recommend booking in advance, especially for travel between May and September. The Inca Trail is usually closed in February for maintenance, and availability can change quickly during high season.

To secure your permit, we will need
  • Full name exactly as shown on passport
  • Passport number
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality
  • Preferred trek date
  • Alternative dates, if available
  • Group size
  • Hotel location before the trek

If permits are sold out for your preferred date, we can recommend the best available alternatives, such as Machu Picchu by train, a Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu itinerary, or another private trek depending on your travel style.

Difficulty & Altitude

The Short Inca Trail 2 days is considered a moderate hike. It is shorter than the classic 4-day Inca Trail, but Day 1 still includes several hours of walking, uphill sections, stone steps, and uneven terrain.
This trek is suitable for active travelers who are comfortable walking for a full day at a steady pace. You do not need technical hiking experience, but good walking shoes, reasonable fitness, and proper acclimatization will make the experience much more enjoyable.

Typical altitudes
  • Cusco: approx. 3,400 m / 11,155 ft
  • Km 104: approx. 2,100 m / 6,890 ft
  • Wiñay Wayna: approx. 2,650 m / 8,694 ft
  • Sun Gate: approx. 2,720 m / 8,924 ft
  • Machu Picchu: approx. 2,430 m / 7,972 ft

Because the Short Inca Trail is lower than the highest sections of the classic route, it is generally easier for acclimatization. Even so, we recommend spending at least one or two nights in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before starting the trek.

We recommend packing light but carefully for this 2-day trek.
