Great way to do rainbow mountain Great experience. Most Tours went out at 3:00 am and nothing was lost with the 8:00am start. Crowds were smaller and views just as spectacular. Alex was a great tour guide and along with Alex the driver. They went out of their way to make the experience both comfortable and memorable

Half-Day Itinerary – Natural Dyeing

car

Morning: Welcome & Cultural Foundation

Your half-day experience begins with a warm welcome at the Andean Textiles Center, accompanied by the traditional sound of the pututo (conch shell). Community artisans greet you and share their ancestral traditions, while a local guide explains the history of traditional textiles in the Sacred Valley and their cultural significance. Learn about the international awards this weaving center has received, and discover the deep importance of natural dyes in Andean life — both in the past and present.

Mid-Morning: Hands-On Natural Dyeing

The workshop shifts to hands-on practice as you begin the practical work alongside master weavers. You’ll identify and gather local plants and natural dye sources, then help prepare alpaca or sheep wool for the dyeing process. Watch as colors slowly appear in the dye pots using traditional methods, while your personal assistant explains how plants and minerals create different tones and combinations. All materials are provided, allowing you to focus entirely on learning and enjoying the experience.

Afternoon: Your Colors & Lasting Keepsake

The final part of your half-day focuses on you — experimenting with your own color combinations under the guidance of master weavers. Learn how timing and ingredient amounts change each shade, producing beautiful, genuine colors using only plants and minerals. You take home your hand-dyed wool as a unique keepsake, along with an official certificate from the Andean Textiles Center, signed by UNESCO-recognized artisan teachers — proof of your authentic learning experience.

All you need is curiosity and a genuine interest in learning.

Yes. This experience is suitable for families with children, adults and senior travelers. There are no long hikes or demanding walks; most of the day is spent in and around the weaving center, participating in hands-on activities at a relaxed pace. If you are traveling with very young children or older relatives, let us know so we can adapt breaks and seating to keep everyone comfortable.

Whenever group size and animal availability allow it, each traveler walks with their own alpaca. In some cases, guests may share an animal for short sections, but we always limit group size to keep the experience personal.

Comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing, a warm jacket, sun hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle and camera or phone for photos. In rainy season, we also recommend a light rain jacket or poncho.

In many cases, yes. Depending on your schedule, we can combine the alpaca walk and natural dye experience with a short visit to nearby viewpoints or other local experiences. Tell us your dates and interests and we will design a custom day for you.
