Cusco or Sacred Valley – Ollantaytambo – Train to Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Return
Your day begins with a private early pickup from your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley. From there, you travel by private vehicle to Ollantaytambo train station, where you board the train to Aguas Calientes.
The train journey follows one of the most scenic routes in Peru, passing through the Sacred Valley, the Urubamba River canyon, mountain landscapes, cloud forest scenery, and sections of ancient Inca territory.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, your guide assists you with the shuttle bus to Machu Picchu. Your visit follows your confirmed timed entry and official circuit. Inside the citadel, your private guide will explain the history, architecture, temples, terraces, viewpoints, and cultural importance of Machu Picchu.
After the guided visit, you return by bus to Aguas Calientes. Depending on your train schedule, you may have time for lunch, a short walk through town, or a visit to the local artisan market before boarding your return train.
Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, your private driver will meet you and transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.

Machu Picchu tickets are limited and must be purchased with each traveler’s passport details. Your ticket is assigned to a specific date, entry time, visitor name, and official circuit.
Availability changes quickly, especially from May to September. Circuit 2, the preferred option for many first-time visitors, often sells out first because it usually offers the most complete classic Machu Picchu experience.

Optional Add-On Tickets
Huayna Picchu Mountain
This is the famous steep mountain behind Machu Picchu. It is a more adventurous hike and is generally better for active travelers, older teenagers, or adults who are comfortable with steep sections. It is not usually recommended for young children.
Machu Picchu Mountain
This is a longer hike with wide panoramic views. It can be beautiful, but it adds significant walking time and effort. For most families doing a one-day tour from Cusco, it may make the day too long.
Sungate
This is a shorter optional hike 1 hour hike from Machu Picchu, usually connected with Circuit 1 routes when available. It may be a better option than Huayna Picchu for some travelers, but availability and route rules must be checked in advance.
Optional mountain tickets are not automatically included unless specifically listed in your confirmed itinerary. These tickets are limited and must be requested in advance.
Difficulty & Accessibility
This tour is considered easy to moderate. It is not a trek, but Machu Picchu is still an archaeological site with stone paths, stairs, uneven surfaces, narrow sections, and limited shaded areas.
For most travelers, the walking is manageable with a private guide and a comfortable pace. However, the route depends on the confirmed circuit, and some circuits include more stairs or elevation changes than others.
